Omni Centers has a comprehensive personalized program aimed at eliminating the major factors that can get in the way of achieving your fat loss goals. This program gives you the support and accountability you need to help to get you to your ideal weight.

Have you been trying to lose weight but have not been successful? Are you trying to lose weight and just can’t seem to get the scale to budge? Do you feel like you’re doing everything “right” to no avail? Do you have issues with your metabolism or is age/low hormone affecting your weight? Some people go through a life transition like a stressful time or childbirth or menopause and feel like their body has never been the same since.

Don’t despair. It does not have to be this way. There is usually an underlying reason to stubborn weight loss. Let Omni Centers help you find that underlying cause and work with you to come up with a solution.

At Omni, you will work with a Physician & Dietician to assess blood values of sex hormones, thyroid and stress hormones, blood sugar and potential insulin resistance and inflammatory markers that can all effect weight loss. Using weight loss shots , bioidentical hormone replacement therapy for men & for women , indicated supplements and diet and lifestyle to bring these values into ideal ranges in order to facilitate weight reduction. Also, you get a registered dietician who has the education, training and experience to help you manage your health will work with you to determine your specific health needs and assist you in developing the tools necessary to achieve those goals along with establishing accountability. Depending on your level of fitness you will get a recommendation for weekly movement/exercise. In addition to diet coaching, you will get the support of weekly check ins with Omni Centers staff that will include weight, measurements and review of the prior week. 

FACTORS THAT CAN EFFECT WEIGHT LOSS

Hormone Imbalances:

At Omni, blood samples are evaluated for hormone values (sex hormones, thyroid hormones, stress hormones and insulin), blood sugar, and inflammatory markers. Obtaining these values objectively takes the guess work out of knowing if one or more of these factors may be impeding your body composition goals. Since hunger, cravings, stress, and energy are all sensations that are managed by our hormones - balancing them should be the first step in everyone's weight loss regimen. Omni Centers offers you a blood test to help get the hormonal balance part of your weight loss equation right. Armed with the results, you will be on your way to optimizing those hormones that effect your ability to lose weight

Sex hormones: An imbalance can impact your ability to lose and maintain your weight.

o   Estrogen Dominance — Too much estrogen relative to progesterone plays a role in weight gain. Estrogen dominance can cause increased cravings and decrease metabolism. If you are experiencing more cravings, and particularly for sugar, it’s entirely possible to fall into a loop that feels like you have no control over those cravings. Increased cravings combined with a sluggish metabolism is a recipe for weight gain. High estrogen in men can lead to increased belly fat and gynocomastia (man boobs)

o   Low Estrogen – Estrogen levels decrease in women as they age and can lead to multiple health concerns including weight gain (due to slowing metabolism), as estrogen decreases there is evidence that carbohydrates/sugars are used less effectively therefore increasing fat storage.  Read more about the causes, side effects and treatment of low estrogen in women. o   Low Progesterone - Low Progesterone can lead to water retention and bloating making it hard to see reduction in your waist line (and other areas). Progesterone also works to support the thyroid which regulates metabolism. Additionally, not having enough progesterone can lead to estrogen becoming the dominant hormone (estrogen dominance- see above). o   Low Testosterone — Research shows low testosterone and weight gain in men has a clear connection Testosterone link men. Low testosterone can lead to higher risk on insulin resistance and make it harder to build muscle in both men and women.

Thyroid Hormones - A complex relationship exists between your thyroid, metabolism, and weight. The American Thyroid Association estimates that 20 million Americans have a thyroid problem, and that up to 60% are unaware of their condition.  Hypothyroidism, a condition where the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone, is characterized by unexplained weight gain and/or difficulty losing weight in addition to associations with sensitivity to cold and dry skin. To find out if your thyroid gland is functioning optimally we will test several thyroid markers. The goal is to get thyroid hormones into ideal ranges not what is considered “normal”.  Symptoms of low thyroid may include trouble sleeping, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, dry hair and skin, depression, sensitivity to cold, joint or muscle pains and in women frequent or heavy periods. We test the active hormones to get a full picture in addition to the TSH that you may have seen from you primary care doctor.

o   TSH – Thyroid Stimulating Hormone. TSH is a hormone made by the pituitary that stimulates that thyroid to manufacture and excrete thyroid hormones Free T3 and Free T4

o   Free T3  and Free T4 – these are the active thyroid hormones that play a role in metabolic rate, cardiovascular and digestive function, muscle control, brain development, mood and bone health.

 o   Thyroid hormones can be supported with prescription thyroid medications, supplements, dietary factors

Stress Hormones - High levels of stress can trigger your body to store additional belly fat. Stress is a major player in stubborn weight loss. We live stressful, fast-paced lives. Stress elevates cortisol and adrenaline, hormones responsible for “fight or flight” in what your body perceives as an emergency or stressor. Once the event is over, our cortisol and adrenaline levels should return to normal. This is a healthy stress response. Chronic stress, however, creates havoc in the body. Cortisol levels, which spike during a stress-inducing event, remain elevated. Some areas that may cause continual stress are a stressful job, a stressful relationship or even the everyday stress of “getting everything done.” This rise in cortisol changes your body’s ability to lose weight. In fact, chronically elevated cortisol can cause weight gain.  And, perhaps even more importantly, this increased baseline can damage the immune system and prevent it from healing. Ultimately, chronic stress can have a negative effect on the levels of good bacteria in the gut, reducing the ability of the immune system to fight infection and puts us at risk for autoimmune disease.

o   Cortisol – High cortisol levels can increase appetite and are associated with more belly fat. Chronically high cortisol levels may cause blood glucose (sugar) levels to be persistently elevated triggering increase in insulin. Chronically elevated insulin is associated with insulin resistance and weight gain.

o   DHEA – DHEA is precursor hormone secreted by the adrenal glands (stress glands) that can be converted into estrogen or testosterone. DHEA plays a role in your body’s ability to burn fat and keep it off. Correcting low DHEA can increase energy, support weight loss and improve libido.

o   Identifying imbalance can help to uncover triggers while we come supporting stress with lifestyle and supplementation to bring these values into ideal ranges.i

Insulin Resistance/Blood Sugar Imbalances 

When insulin levels are chronically high and body becomes resistant to insulin, fat storage can be further increased.

Insulin Imbalance — If your blood sugar levels and insulin are off, you can experience carb cravings, difficulty losing weight and excess belly fat. Insulin resistance means your cells can’t absorb the extra blood glucose your body keeps generating from the food you eat, and your liver converts the glucose into fat. Processed foods, including foods like pasta and bread, sugary drinks, and even foods marketed as “healthy,” like granola bars, play a role in insulin resistance. Insulin imbalance can give rise to Type 2 diabetes so it is important to get those numbers under control. Fasting insulin, fasting blood sugar and hemoglobin A1c labs give us an ideal of how your body is utilizing insulin identifying some risks for diabetes and why some of that stubborn fat may be sticking around.

o   Insulin – Having excess insulin leads to weight gain. Insulin is a hormone that helps to move glucose into your cells for energy. When you eat carbohydrates your body converts them into glucose (sugar) and in response your body produces insulin. The higher your blood sugar the more insulin you must produce to deal with it and high insulin levels trigger your body to store excess glucose as fat rather than removing it through your urine. If you constantly have sugar introduced into your blood stream you have to make more and more insulin, as your tissues are flooded with insulin the become less responsive to it leading to insulin resistance. Because the whole body is connected it is not just increasing your risk of diabetes but can negatively effect the thyroid making it even more difficult to lose weight.

o   In addition to insulin other blood sugar markers will be tested then based off your makers Omni will help with diet, supplementation and lifestyle to lower insulin/insulin resistance and improve blood sugars to reduce risks/improve diabetes

Inflammation and General Health Markers - Inflammation, anemia, and vitamin D status are all important weight loss markers.

Systemic inflammation is our body’s immune response to substances it sees as a foreign invader. Over time chronic inflammation can lead to many heavy-hitting diseases, such as heart disease, many cancers and even Alzheimer’s. It is also associated with allergies, anemia, asthma, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, celiac, Crohn’s, fibromyalgia, gall bladder disease, GERD, Hashimoto’s, psoriasis, and more. Inflammation makes us feel sluggish, bloated, and gives us achy joints or muscles. It is associated with high blood pressure, blood sugar problems, headaches, depression and anxiety.

In addition, inflammation can interfere with you ability to lose weight.

o   Elevated hsCRP (C-Reactive Protein) (A blood marker)– one inflammatory marker that is frequently associated with risk for cardiovascular disease and some cancers can also play a role in weight gain (or making it more challenging to lose weight. Where there is excessive inflammation (indicated by elevated CRP) the body spends much of its energy trying to get it under control which in turn leaves less energy available for metabolism which increases the tendency to store calories as fat AND increase your appetite resulting in weight gain. Unfortunately, high excess fat is, itself, inflammatory compounding the problem

o   Leptin – Another challenge is leptin. Leptin is important hormone that regulates your body’s level of fat by controlling your appetite and metabolism. In healthy people, the production of leptin signals the brain to suppress appetite and speed up metabolism—leading these people to feel less hunger, burn more calories and lose the excess fat. Chronic inflammation, however, impairs the brain’s ability to receive leptin’s appetite-suppressing message.

o   Low Vitamin D – Vitamin D helps to regulate belly fat and reduce adipogenesis (formation of fat cells). It can help to counteract the effects of insulin resistance (see above). Vitamin D can also act as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory while improving lean muscle mass, strength and bone mineral density.

o   CMP/CBC – Blood sample will look at red and white blood cells screening for anemia and infection also liver and kidney function. The liver is especially important in processing fat before it leaves your body.

o   Along with using supplements that help to lower inflammation. Diet plays a very important role in inflammation. If desired Omni will help with an elimination diet to determine which foods are triggering inflammation and you will work with a registered dietician to  identify and implement your specific nutrition needs

Injections:

MIC and B12 Injections: Lipotropic injections are used to help release fat deposits in some parts of the body. Some of these areas include the stomach, inner thighs, neck, buttocks and hips. Lipotropic, or fat burning, substances include methionine which helps the liver remove fat; inositol, similar to methionine; choline, which distributes cholesterol and prevents it from getting deposited in one part of the body. In some cases, a combination of these may be given. Injections can be administered up to twice a week. B12 is purported by its users and practitioners to help speed up the overall metabolic processes and create a greater feeling of overall energy. Because lipotropics directly aid fat breakdown and are closely related to B vitamins, when used together they are thought to intensify each others' effects. The amino acids that are injected into the body stimulate the liver into optimizing the process of metabolism. These injections boost the metabolic power of the body. The injections are only effective temporarily. As soon as the effect of these substances wears out, the body starts returning to normal gradually, therefor, it is important this these are done regularly to get the most benefit. Diet:

Portion Distortion — You might find it hard to believe but portion size alone is often a culprit, particularly in the United States where portion sizes have grown over the years. Researchers have found, for instance, that meal sizes at restaurants have tripled in size since the 1970s and the plates we serve our meals on have also increased in size. At every turn, we are encouraged to eat more than we need.

The Right Mix of Nutrients — Beyond the amount you are eating, is what you are eating. Are you living on rice cakes and cottage cheese, thinking that low-calorie diet foods are going to help you reach your goal? That strategy is likely undermining your weight loss objective. Weight loss is often about moving away from processed foods and into a whole foods based diet.

If you have nutrition related goals you owe it to yourself to work with a qualified and credentialed provider. This means working with a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist who has the education, training and experience to help you manage your health. I will work with you to determine your specific health needs and assist you in developing the tools necessary to achieve those goals along with establishing accountability.
This set of appointments will get you started with an initial foundation towards achieving your wellness goals including but not limited to weight loss, disease management and prevention, supporting gut health, improving athletic performance, or simply establishing healthy habits with your nutrition. 

During your 60-minute initial consult we will review your health history, current habits and desired health goals. Together we will be reviewing your  personalized meal plan outline designed to support your specific goals and lifestyle. Your follow up consults will be 45minutes and this will be scheduled depending on provider/client determined level of accountability. As part of your nutrition journey, we will be discussing many aspects of your path to better health and you will have the opportunity to track your progress using software that will allow us to stay connected through an easy to use app*. Thus if you have questions along the way, I can provide you with a timely and secure response!  My goal as a provider is to go beyond just helping you reach your goals- I want to ensure that you enjoy the process along the way AND create sustainable habits for a lifetime. 

*NOTE:  In addition to the custom meal plan and two consults you will also get unlimited messaging with Denise through the Healthie app. The Healthie platform allows me to conduct HIPAA compliant tele-health sessions with you, gives you access to your own meal tracker (via pics), will connect to your fitbit (optional), allow you to track metrics, and as noted above- includes a secure messaging system where you have easy access to chat with me. The app is free and available for both iPhone and Android. This means if you have questions on the fly regarding a meal combination, new product you found in the grocery store, etc. you can easily send me an instant message through the system. I will also ask you to send me a brief weekly update through the system allowing us to maintain consistent accountability and track your progress. 

Sleep

Lack of Consistent Quality Sleep — Even a slight sleep loss boosts cortisol levels and can accelerate the development of insulin resistance. In fact, one study found that getting just 30 fewer minutes sleep than you should per weekday can increase your risk of obesity and diabetes. Another study found that sleeping about 5 hours a night for one week led to an average of two pounds of weight gain and a reduction of leptin. Not getting enough sleep is associated with several other issues including heart disease, high blood pressure, accidents, mood disorders, depression and decreased productivity.

Sleep issues may be caused by a hormone imbalance or you may benefit from the right combination of supplements to get the hours of good quality sleep you need to support your fat reduction

Toxic Overload —  Everyday you are exposed to chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, hormones, medications and other toxins that create a toxic load in your body. These toxins are found everywhere — in your food and water, household cleaning products, cosmetics, candles and plastics. Even seemingly healthy products, including shampoo and conditioner, face cream or toothpaste can contain toxic ingredients. Toxins affect hormones and can create hormonal imbalances that lead to weight-loss resistance. When you carry a toxic burden, leptin, the hormone that tells the brain to burn fat for energy, does not do its job of informing the brain to burn fat. Toxins change our ability to balance blood sugar and metabolize cholesterol, which overtime, can lead to insulin resistance. So, even if you are eating well and exercising weight loss becomes stymied when your body is in a state of toxicity. Cleanse and detoxify with supplements specific to your body’s chemistry, optimizing your body’s secretion of these chemicals, make sure detoxifying organs like liver and kidneys appear healthy and functioning optimally and utilize clean eating with Omni’s fat loss protocol.
