Skin Tightening

When you’re young, your skin seems to defy gravity. Thanks to abundant collagen production, youthful skin is tight, toned and able to spring back from countless smiles, frowns and squints.

Skin laxity is an issue for many people. There is no such thing as exercise for your skin so, for those of us that are not genetically blessed with tight, wrinkle-free skin, we look to science. At the leading edge for non-surgical skin tightening are the energy based therapies.

After age 30, our natural production of collagen and elastin decrease, causing wrinkles, sagging jowls and drooping eyelids. These are the two proteins that help our skin stay firm, plump, and toned, as they decline they can leave our skin looking loose and crepey. Non-surgical skin tightening targets energy in the layers of the skin to stimulate that collagen and elastin production, which will gradually improve the texture and tone.

Target areas for loose skin treatments include the face, neck (and chin), décolletage, stomach, thighs, and basically anywhere else on the body you want to see improvement. Depending on your target area and skin type radio frequency may be your best option or a plasma arc may be what you need to do the trick.

Stimulating collagen and elastin happens in a few major ways. The most common form of non-surgical skin tightening utilizes heat via radio frequency such as our Viora Treatments. Commonly known as RF, it stimulates the production of collagen and elastin by heating the dermis in a controlled manner. A more advanced form of this energy delivery is through RF Microneedling through a device known as Vivace,  where the RF is delivered deeper and hotter at the end of a needle. Again a controlled and specific targeting of the tissue. A newer form of skin tightening comes in the form of plasma energy. Our Plasma Pen utilizes the 4th state of matter, causing the  plasma energy to arc onto the skin causing tiny crusts to form thereby pulling the skin tight.

Another way to cause tightening of the skin is by mechanical means through the use of SkinPen or other microneedle device (also used with Vivace). Stimulating healing through microscopic injuries that cause collagen to form in the healing process.

As always, nutritional supplementation can support healthy collagen production by giving you the building blocks your skin needs for repair. Here at Omni Centers we strongly recommend skin nutrition as an adjunct to any treatment.

One option might work magic on the butt but isn't going to be the best option for tightening your under eye area.  Here at Omni Centers our multiple modalities can address many skin tightening concerns in all areas of the body. Not sure which one would be right for you? Dr Lauren and our trained and professional staff will consult with you to find your best course of action for your individual needs.

Comfortably performed in our office, the Viora has little or no downtime. Treatment time will vary depending on the part of the face or body being treated and the size of the area. During treatment for the face, a brief pulse of thermal heat will be delivered. The facial areas require 6 passes of radiofrequency (RF) energy. The tip of the handpiece has a cooling sensation while in contact with the skin. The tip cools and protects the epidermis while the energy penetrates deep into the skin to heat collagen fibers in the dermis and subcutaneous tissue. During body treatments, the pulse of thermal heat will be delivered while the handpiece serves as a vacuum to increase the depth of the heat and to help move triglycerides and fatty acids out of the fat cells to the lymph system.
When the Viora energy is applied, you will feel a deep but brief heating sensation, which is an indication that collagen is reaching effective temperatures for tightening. During the Viora body contouring procedures, the heat will be accompanied by a vacuum, which will be adjusted to your comfort level. To protect the surface of your skin, the tip of the handpiece contains a cooling device. Either a gel (for the face) or a glycerin oil (for the body) is applied during treatment to help keep the surface of your skin cool. During your procedure you will be asked for feedback on the level of heat sensation experienced during the procedure to help balance your comfort with maximum results. Heat is absolutely essential to tighten the collagen and stimulate new collagen growth.
The Viora is not suitable for patients with pacemakers, internal defibrillators, or other implanted electrical devices. It is also not recommended for patients who are pregnant or who suffer from an auto-immune disease. During the treatment a deep heating sensation will be noticeable and is an indication that the treatment is stimulating your own collagen production. Common side effects include swelling, reddening and bruising. Reddening (if any) typically subsides within a few hours after the treatment. Swelling typically goes down within a day but can last 3-5 days for some patients. Bruising may occur as a result of the vacuum during the procedure, and usually subsides within a few days. Degrees of swelling, reddening and bruising vary from person to person. A complete list of potential side effects is available during your consultation.
The effect is natural. At first, you may be the only one to notice the change. Your family and friends may remark that you look rested or ask if you have lost weight. Some patients will notice subtle tightening immediately post-procedure but more noticeable results will be evident 2 months after the treatment. One maintenance treatment is recommended every 4-6 months after completion of the treatment plan.
