FAQs
Dermaplaning is a physical exfoliation procedure. It requires the use of a sterile, surgical scalpel to gently "shave" the skin's surface, removing the top-most layer of dead skin, dirt and oil along with fine, vellus hair (aka peach fuzz) leaving brighter smoother skin. The procedure can be performed monthly, with no downtime post-treatment. Dermaplaning is only performed on the face; however, it is not meant to be used to shape eyebrows, which are made up of terminal (not vellus) hairs. The nose is also avoided.
Regular dermaplaning treatments can:
- Improve the appearance of fine lines
- Improve the overall texture of skin
- Reduce the appearance of acne scars
- Helps decongest skin
- Reduce the appearance of large pores
Dermaplaning is an ideal treatment for men and women interested in improving the tone and texture of their skin. This aesthetic treatment is safe for patients with most skin types, including sensitive skin and skin with rosacea. We do not recommend dermaplaning treatments for patients with excessively oily skin or acne prone skin. This is also a great treatment if you are pregnant or nursing and want exfoliation without the risk of harsh chemicals absorbing into the blood stream and potentially harming your baby.
Dermaplaning removes 21 days worth of dead skin cells, so it’s best to allow the skin to complete its rejuvenation cycle before your next treatment.
There are no side effects and zero downtime. After the treatment, your skin will be highly sensitive to sun exposure and may already look very pink, so be sure to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation. However, you’ll immediately look more radiant with a more even skin tone and texture. All of your peach fuzz will be gone, which is why first-timers say their skin has never felt so soft before.
Dermaplaning is a painless treatment that includes deep cleansing, professional exfoliation in the form of dermaplaning followed by restorative treatment and finished with skin care suited to your unique skin. Dermaplaning has a similar sensation to close a shave which removes vellus hair and dead skin cells simultaneously.
About 50 minutes. The Omni DermaZen is about an hour and 15 minutes
You’ll immediately look more radiant with a more even skin tone and texture. While the main objective of this treatment is exfoliation, the immediate removal of peach fuzz is an added benefit which renders the skin exceptionally smooth and soft. Skin care products are better able to penetrate the skin following a dermaplaning service which allows them to work more efficiently. Your cosmetics will also go on smoother. After the treatment, your skin will be highly sensitive to sun exposure and may look pink, so be sure to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation.
After a Dermaplaning treatment your skin needs time to heal and restore. Treat the skin gently, using only hands to cleanse for at least 2 days and wearing sunscreen every day.
No, dermaplaning will not alter your natural hair growth. As we remove the vellus hair we are cutting it at the thickest part of the hair follicle so it may appear thicker or darker for a brief period of time. However, this perceived difference is cosmetic and most clients do not notice.
